Dreaming Big 2023 Wellington at Russell McVeagh

Our first Dreaming Big Wellington event was very generously held at the Russell McVeagh office. Dreaming Big is an event designed to inspire and encourage year 13 female students with potential to be brave and bold in seeking, taking opportunities and dealing with challenges. Schools were invited to select two students to attend at no cost to either the school or the student. Participating schools were from across broader Wellington region. The day provided 80 year 13 girls a chance to connect with our inspirational line-up of speakers. The speakers gave many valuable insights and tips to help the girls set their goals and dream big.

A talk from two senior business women
Margie Apa, Chief Executive of Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand and Mei Fern Johnson, Partner, Corporate Advisory at Russell McVeagh spoke openly about their journey to becoming two of New Zealand’s leading women in business, the hurdles they overcame and the highlights in their careers. Facilitated by Royal Reed.
Leadership panel
A panel discussion with Madhura Banerjee, Adviser, Resolution, Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Te Pūtea Matua, Tahirah Moton, Lived Experience Advisor in the Voices of Children and Young People Team at Oranga Tamariki- Ministry for Children, Laura Sahng, Graduate Law Clerk at Russell McVeagh.

A session on entrepreneurship
Jessie Wong, Founder/Director, Yu Mei, Brooke Roberts, Co-Founder and Director, Sharesies and Claudia Batten, Founder, Advisor, Mentor and Company Director gave a fascinating session on entrepreneurship, sharing how they each navigated the very complex world of entrepreneurship and finding their own unique brands.
Getting an interview/presenting your best self
Anna Liumaihetau Darling, General Manager – People Experience at Sharesies and Linda Clay, General Manager, Māori Women’s Development Inc, will lead a discussion on tips for getting an interview, how best to present yourself and addressing the “imposter syndrome”.
A session on financial wellbeing
Presented by Sophie Goodwin, Lead Dealer, Sharesies and Victoria Wynn, Operations Lead – Money and Investment Flows, Sharesies

The day finished with students asking the OnBeingBold women any question they would like.

The Dreaming Big Auckland event was again very generously held at the Fonterra head office. Dreaming Big is an event designed to inspire and encourage year 13 female students with potential to be brave and bold in seeking, taking opportunities and dealing with challenges. Schools were invited to select two students to attend at no cost to either the school or the student. Participating schools were from across broader Auckland and this year there was also participation from schools outside Auckland including schools in Central Hawkes Bay, Gisborne and Kaitaia. The day provided over 80 year 13 girls a chance to connect with our inspirational line-up of speakers. The speakers gave many valuable insights and tips to help the girls set their goals and dream big.
